Qt launches new HMI software framework to develop next-generation digital cockpits

Qt and Bosch partnership enables automakers to cost-effectively develop ready-to-use next-generation digital cockpits

Hope, Finland – 21st June 2022 The Qt Companythe world’s leading provider of software technologies, today announces a collaboration with Bosch, a leading automotive vendor, which will deploy Qt’s unified cross-platform HMI design and development framework to provide automakers with the tools to create a solution-ready digital cockpit. The solution offers a turnkey approach for automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) looking to develop their human-machine interfaces (HMIs) to operate on, for example, AUTOSAR architectures.

Accelerated digitization within the automotive industry has led to increased customer demand for digital cockpits that provide consumers with a much more immersive experience, with advanced features. According Grand View Searchthe compound annual growth rate of global automotive digital cockpits is expected to grow to 8.8% by 2028, and automotive OEMs are looking for well-organized and affordable approaches to developing these advanced in-car experiences.

With Qt’s latest addition for MCU, Qt can now be developed and deployed on any automotive-grade microprocessor unit (MPU) and microcontroller unit (MCU). The solution can be used on any operating system or software platform environment, including INTEGRITY RTOS, QNX Neutrino RTOS, Android Automotive OS and Automotive Grade Linux (AGL), as well as the latest addition to the Qt offer, AUTOSAR CLASSIC .

Qt and Bosch’s collaboration allows OEMs to build the entire Digital Cockpit and, for the first time, Qt for MCU allows Qt HMI to be deployed on top of the AUTOSAR CLASSIC platform. OEMs can maximize graphics computing efficiency and security while reducing BOM cost. Development needs can also be scaled up and down when using Qt, and software developed with Qt is reusable and scalable source code. It improves productivity and reduces product time to market.

The collaboration eliminates the need to purchase additional hardware as all features such as heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) and power mirrors can be enabled on a single system-on-chip (SoC). The rich user interface for MPUs and MCUs resulting from the integration of HMI and AUTOSAR will provide the end user with unparalleled visuals when using safety critical and non-safety critical HMIs in the digital cockpit.

The collaborative work between Qt and Bosch will be presented at Embedded world (visit Hall 4, Booth 4-258). Visitors to the booth can also learn more about the Outrun demo, which showcases some of the multi-screen digital cockpits that can be built with Qt.
