Automatic gear inspection software from LK Metrology

Coordinate measuring machine (CMM) manufacturer LK Metrology has launched a third version of its CAMIO 2021 programming and measurement software with many enhancements, including a module that automates the inspection of spur and involute helical gears.

CAMIO GEARS starts measuring specific gear geometry quickly, using the basic capabilities of CAMIO software to generate simple inspection programs, advanced gear ratios and automated probe calibration routines.

For each gear type, the software has a unique set of definitions, valuation algorithms, and report charts conveniently grouped together in an add-on, allowing users to easily bring in new functionality. to their existing MMT. The module supports gear axis alignment during measurement using any of the three CMM axes and traditional touch trigger probes or advanced scan probes.

Other improvements have been incorporated into CAMIO 2021 R3, announced at the end of November. Smart 3-2-1 Datum Alignment is a new feature that intelligently selects the datum axis and origin constraints, as well as the most appropriate datum features using best practices. If the user manually changes the alignment properties, the selections are automatically updated.

Explorer Tree Datum Definition allows more efficient definition of reference features directly from the feature explorer, with the ability to specify the reference label. Report table function order provides new options to control the order in which functions are reported in graphical tables, either alphabetically, by program output, or in a user-defined order.

The coordinates and directions of the learning path are defined using the CAD model. The GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing) reporting algorithm has been further improved to be independent of the standard used. There is a new capability to retrieve points from a feature measured using a touch probe, complementing the existing functionality to retrieve data from a point cloud.

For CAD users, the swap file versions are compatible with the latest version of Spatial’s InterOp, as was the case in the previous iteration of CAMIO 2021. The interoperability software is a leader in industry in CAD data translation that allows users to easily import, interact with, share and export 3D data across CMM platforms and manufacturing sites easily.

CAMIO 2021 R3 encourages users to graphically drive the inspection process from the CAD model, online or offline, although teach-in and teach-in using the CMM handbox are available. An advanced user interface makes part alignment, feature inspection, and dimensional tolerancing quick and intuitive.

The virtual CMM programming environment means that precise sequences of axis motion and probe motion can be simulated for collision detection and cycle time estimates. CAMIO 2021 supports Metrology Gate, the Industry 4.0 software that allows production teams to visualize and analyze quality data and remotely monitor all CMM activities from any internet-connected device. The web portal provides 24/7 access to information from any enabled metrology device to automatically retrieve inspection results and error summary, recording of program changes, CMM availability and OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness).

Historical logs aid in troubleshooting and warn when routine maintenance is needed, not only of inspection machines, but also of machine tools or other equipment on which components are manufactured. The software provides a modular solution for different levels of CMM automation to increase productivity, profitability and product quality.
